BOOK YOUR APPOINTMENT

ARE YOU A GOOD CANDIDATE?

Laser eye surgery is becoming one of the fastest-growing surgical industries in the world, and it’s not hard to see why. Laser eye surgery provides patients with permanent solutions for their visual impairment, and there are a variety of procedures available to help different eye types.

By requesting a consultation with one of our optometrists, you can see if you are a viable candidate for laser eye surgery, and how the procedure could benefit your eyes.

TLC AFFILIATED OPTOMETRISTS

Elora Optometry is proud to be affiliated with TLC Laser Eye Centres to provide you with the best laser eye surgery care. TLC works closely with our optometrists to provide you with the best care before, during, and after the procedure.

TYPES OF PROCEDURES

Depending on the condition of your eyes and your current vision problems, there are a variety of procedures we can discuss with you.

LASIK eye surgery is the most popular form of laser eye surgery currently available. During this procedure, an ophthalmologist will make a small “flap” on the surface of your cornea to grant them access to the inner layers of your cornea. Next, your ophthalmologist will use an excimer laser to gently reshape the cornea and correct the refractive error in your eyes. At the end of the surgery, your ophthalmologist will carefully fold the “flap” back to its original position to heal.

LASIK can help correct symptoms of myopia, presbyopia, and astigmatism.

PRK is similar to LASIK. During this procedure, an ophthalmologist uses a laser to gently reshape the cornea to correct refractive errors. However, the main difference between LASIK and PRK is that during PRK, the ophthalmologist completely removes the top layer of the cornea rather than just creating a flap.

For patients whose natural lens is not strong enough to provide them with clear vision, refractive lens exchange may be suggested. During this surgery, an incision is made in your eye that allows your ophthalmologist to gently remove your natural lens. The natural lens is then replaced with an artificial one, correcting your refractive error. This procedure is similar to cataract surgery.

POST-SURGERY

The healing process varies depending on the patient and type of surgery they underwent, but a full recovery may take several months. After the surgery you will meet with your optometrist regularly for check-ups so they can test your vision and closely monitor your recovery.
